In Taos and surrounding communities, the three days of Friday May 8 through Sunday the 10th offer a slew of events and activities with which to celebrate the mothers in your family. Here’s a list pulled from BeyondTaos Art Calendar.

May 7-10, Taos
Performance: “On Golden Pond” in Mural Room of Old County Courthouse,
A humorous examination of life, looking at the love story of the spirited Ethel and the curmudgeon Norman who unexpectedly forges a bond with a 13 year old boy. Presented by Taos Onstage, Thurs-Sat 7:30pm; Sun 2:00pm.

May 8-10, Taos
Spring Arts & Crafts Fair in Kit Carson Park
Presented every year since 1971 by Taos County Chamber of Commerce.Local and regional artisans display and sell pottery, food products, textiles, paintings and photography, handmade toys, and more. Open 10 to 5:00 each day.

May 8-10, On the Rio Grande in Pilar
Mother’s Day Rio Grande Whitewater Festival
Three days of fun. Whitewater races, river-side rendezvous, rodeo events, guided hikes and competitions for rafts, kayaks, canoes, and paddle boards. Location: Rio Bravo Campground in Pilar

May 9-10, Taos
Northern New Mexico Mother’s Day Concert in Kit Carson Park
Two days of traditional New Mexico-style music from premier artists in the NM Music scene. A free event presented by DMC Broadcasting.

May 9, Taos
Mother’s Day Crafts for the Kids at Twirl Toyspace,
From 11:00 to 1:00pm, kids make flowers for their moms that will last all year: duct tape roses or flowers from supplied crafting supplies.

Taos Youth Ballet’s Thumbelina at Taos Center for the Arts
This full-length ballet is adapted from Hans Christian Andersen’s story “Thumbelina.” Featuring the studio’s 350 students whose ages range from 3 years old to adult. With a mix of contemporary dance, classical ballet, hip hop, Flamenco and Odissi Classical Indian Dance, this performance is an excellent choice for the entire family. Performances begin at 6:30pm with a 1:30 matinee on Saturday and tickets are $8 to $15 each (Students/seniors and adults).

Mother’s Day Labyrinth Project at Purple Adobe Lavender Farm  
Stroll through the lavender fields, walk the lavender labyrinth, add a stone, make a wish. Be a part of building a new labyrinth. Shop for farm-made lavender body, bath and culinary products, have a tasty lunch and healthy lavender goodies on the deck of the Tea House, buy lavender plant starts in the nursery.

Inaugural Pig Roast & Half Price Local Night at Bull O’ the Woods Saloon at 4:00pm
