Taos Lilacs Remembered

An iPhone essay on 2016’s abundant crop of lilacs

By Janet Webb – May 15, 2016 [reposted May 15, 2017]

Old timers and avid gardeners love to compare “Lilac Years.” Most agree 2016 is the best in memory. This week, in anticipation of the third annual Taos Lilac Festival, I’ve collected snapshots of lilacs in my neighborhood and in a few outlying communities. I just wish I could share the fragrance!

2017 Update: The 4th annual Taos Lilac Festival happens May 19-21. This year’s lilacs rival the abundance of 2016! Is it weather conditions or the fact that the Lilac Fest is educating Taos gardeners on best practices for cultivating these treasured blooms?
