PBS highlights Rio Chama Rafting - Far Flung Adventures
Posted Mar 30, 2018
Adventures rafting on the Rio Chama with Far Flung Adventures, hiking the Continental Divide Trail, and staying at Monastery of Christ in the Desert will be featured in a new half hour episode on PBS stations across the nation as part of the “Travels with Darley” series. The episode is entitled “New Mexico’s Continental Divide Trail” and will air Saturday April 21, 3:30pm on New Mexico PBS KNME-HD.
The popular PBS series TRAVELS WITH DARLEY stars five-time Emmy Award-nominated host and travel expert Darley Newman who takes viewers around the world with local experts and guides to experience food, culture and outdoor adventures. This episode debuts on PBS stations in March and April and coincides with the 50th anniversary of the National Trails System and the 40th anniversary of the Continental Divide Trail (CDT).
Throughout the episode, Darley shares experiences that are fun and inspirational through immersive storytelling and practical travel tips. Adventures include hiking in Silver City, learning about medicinal remedies from Navajo Medicine Man Philmer Bluehouse on a high altitude section of the CDT on Mount Taylor, a mountain sacred to many Native American tribes. She then heads north to Chama, where the CDT runs through high desert country made famous by painter Georgia O’Keeffe and where the Trail intersects with the Rio Chama, one of America's Wild & Scenic Rivers. Here she takes a river rafting ride down the Rio Chama with Steve Harris of Far Flung Adventures.
