Ski Season Opens November 16th! - Sipapu Ski & Summer Resort
Posted Nov 12, 2018
Sipapu Ski Resort received 13" of snow from the recent snowstorm on November 11, totaling 31 inches so far this season with 25 inches falling in the past 2 weeks.
For the past 16 years, Sipapu Ski & Summer Resort has been the first resort in New Mexico to open for ski season. The 2018/2019 season will begin on Friday, November 16th! Join us on opening day, featuring Sierra Nevada with prize baskets for the first skiers in lift line and beer samples and other giveaways for guests 21 and over.
This ski season is forecast for good snow due to El Nino. The National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is currently predicting El Nino conditions this winter, which tend to produce greater than average snowfall across the southern Rockies, benefiting northern New Mexico.
“The whole team at Sipapu is excited for ski season and welcoming our guests for the Thanksgiving week,” stated John Paul Bradley, mountain manager of Sipapu Ski Resort. “Our crews are currently getting our mountain ready for winter. This recent snowfall drops the soil temperature, providing better insulation for any natural or man-made snow. We’re busy with lift, trail and snowcat maintenance. We’re ready to get our snow guns in place in our quest to once again be the first resort to open in New Mexico.”
This year, Sipapu offers a free season pass for those in fifth grade and younger, which includes unlimited access to Pajarito, Sipapu, and Hesperus Ski Area near Durango. Sipapu offers family-friendly events, like February Fun Fest, plus a week-long kids’ day camp, the Yeti Club in March.
Guests can start booking their winter vacations now, including reservations for the three new Riverside Cabins at Sipapu. For details, visit SipapuNM.com.Visit Site
