Founded in 1952 by Lloyd and Olive Bolander, the Sipapu ski area opened with a 100-foot long rope tow. A year later, a rental shop opened with thirty pairs of used skis. The word Sipapu means "land of paradise" or "spirit place."
Surrounded by the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and Carson National Forest, Sipapu resort is known for its unspoiled character and rustic charm and is home to New Mexico’s longest ski season in the Rockies.

Snow fun for all levels of skiers and snowboarders, with over 40 trails, four lifts, and two terrain parks. During the summer months, the resort offers world-class trout fishing, four wheeling, disc golf, hiking and more.
