Eating too much is an annual Thanksgiving tradition for most of us. We stuff ourselves all day and feel guilty for weeks. This year, why not start a healthy pre-Thanksgiving tradition for you and your family? The 3rd Annual Taos Turkey Trot 5k Run Road Race & Fun Run/Walk is a fun invigorating way to kick-start the holiday season on a healthy note. Whether you’re the competitive racer in the family or just want to join the walk with the kids, this event encourages all ages and all abilities to have a fun and active lifestyle.
The race route starts and ends at the Taos Youth and Family Center at 9am on Saturday, November 23. You can register online by Friday, November 22, or register in person on the day of event from 7:30am to 8:45am. $20 for adults. Children ages 11 & under are free. The first 200 registered will received a Taos Turkey Trot t-shirt.
Awards will be given to the top three finishers in the male and female categories. Bib numbers will be drawn for raffle prizes. Choice Wireless will be giving a free phone to the Best Costume. Some other awards include turkeys from Cids Food Market, $50 gift card to the Gorge Bar and Grill, and Taos Ski Valley Lift Tickets, plus much more.
All proceeds to benefit “Get Fit Taos Kids” and Taos Sports Alliance. The Get Fit Taos Kids Project began in 2010 as a collaborative effort between Holy Cross Hospital, Taos Clinic for Children & Youth and Aurafitness. The intention of “Get Fit Taos Kids” is to work with youth ages of approximately 8 – 14 years who are overweight and at risk for developing co-occurring diseases such as diabetes. The Taos Sports Alliance serves the Northern New Mexico community by programming, promoting and operating sports and recreation events benefiting youth participation by collaborating volunteers, private companies and municipal resources to help students participate in organized sports and recreational activities as a way toward a healthy lifestyle.
Last year participation in the Turkey Trot more than DOUBLED and we expect to see the same this year! Come out and TROT!
