Part II of BeyondTaos’s series* about Taos artists showing elsewhere includes Western art masters Bill Acheff, Walt Gonske, David Leffel, Sherrie McGraw, and Michael Stack in the Prix de West exhibition in Oklahoma City. In Colorado, the founders of SEED Sensorium and a few of their Taos friends exhibit in Seed::Disperse at the Dairy Arts Center in Boulder.
Ollie Bell shows a projection piece in Brooklyn NY based on the enjarre at Ranchos Church. And Debbie Long took Namia, her art trailer, to Chimento Contemporary in downtown Los Angeles. Pictures, times, dates,and locations follow below.

Ninety-nine western painters are included in last weekend’s (June 10-12) Prix de West exhibition opening celebration. Five are from Taos. For over 40 years, the Prix de West exhibition and its awards have helped establish the careers of a select few artists across the country. Again this year, Taos plays a prominent role, in fact a Taos artist received one of Prix de West awards. Read on!

Curator Lee Lee explains the exhibition, which was germinated in Taos in 2009: “SEED is an interdisciplinary arts project exploring and celebrating the miracle of the seed. The SEED Mission is to encourage cross-pollination between the arts and sciences through fine art exhibitions and creative dissemination methods in combination with multi-sensory and educational SEED Sensorium. Visitors to SEED are invited to look through the lens of the seed to explore connections between art and science and their personal relationship to the natural world.”
SEED Taos Founders: Siena Sanderson, Claire Cote, Katie Woodall, and Mandy Stapleford. Other Taos artists in the show include Julia Ruth Claus, Peter Chinni, Linda Michel-Cassidy, Sybille Palmer, Merce Mitchell, Stephanie Lerma, Gretchen Ewert, and TJ Mabrey.

Naima is a chamber of purple light and glass hidden inside a rusted trailer. Hundreds of handmade cast glass objects collect light from the sky. The interior transforms as light shifts throughout the day, sunrise to sunset.
