March 2, 2016 – Taos Pueblo closes to visitors each spring for a traditional time of rest. Generally, and the case this year, the spring closure is the whole month of March and most of April.
Visitors to Taos are often disappointed to learn they can’t see the ancient Pueblo village and visit the artists’ studios that occupy a number of the ground floor homes in both the north and south Pueblo compounds.
“Art Speaks: Works by Taos Pueblo Artists” is an exhibition organized by Taos Center for the Arts, timed to give visitors and Pueblo artists a venue for art commerce during this year’s annual closure. (Millicent Rogers Museum is also planning a Pueblo art show and sale this month, March 11-13.)
Here’s a preview of the artists and artwork featured at the Encore Gallery. The exhibit will hang through April 24. The gallery is open during, and an hour prior to auditorium events and on Tuesdays through Fridays, 11:00am to 3:00pm.
The Encore Gallery is at 133 Paseo del Pueblo Norte, Taos New Mexico, 575-758-2052.
