TALK TO OJO CALIENTE
39 miles west of Taos; Drive time: 45 mins.; Elevation: 6,983 ft; Population: 1,130.
Ojo Caliente (Hot Eye) Mineral Springs’ is one of the oldest natural health resorts in the country, and the only hot springs in the world with a combination of four different types of mineral waters. Its sulfur-free, geothermal mineral waters have flowed from a subterranean volcanic aquifer for thousands of years.
The Ojo Caliente area is the site of several prehistoric pueblos and hot springs from which the area derives its name. In the 1500's the Spaniard, in their quest for gold and the Fountain of Youth, discovered the unusual mineral springs in Ojo Caliente, New Mexico.
